Summer time is here and that means swimming!! I know that lots of parents with babies and toddlers end up spending lots of money on disposable swim diapers – a small pack costs about $10 – crazy. But there is another option – cloth swim diapers. Even if you don’t cloth diaper your little ones you can still use a cloth swim diaper, so be sure to keep reading.
I was very excited to receive a Bummis Swimmi for Sugar to try out.
Bummis makes a few different awesome cloth diapering options, training pants, and cloth diapering accessories and they hit another home run with their cloth swim diaper. It is available in 4 sizes: small (9-15 lbs), medium (15-22 lbs), large (22-30 lbs), and x-large (30 lbs). We received the medium for Sugar and even though she is 23 pounds it still fits her great with plenty of room to grow. The Bummis Swimmi is available in 5 adorable cotton prints – Sugar received Bubbles that is pictured above. It is very trim and will fit underneath a bathing suit with no problems at all, of course with how cute the prints are a bathing suit really isn’t necessary. The interior is made of polyester mesh and under that is a layer of coated nylon which will keep even the messiest poops contained where they should be – inside the diaper, not floating in the pool! Have you ever changed a poopy disposable swim diaper? Let me tell you that is a horrible mess, but you won’t have that issue with the Bummis Swimmi. I really like the soft stretchy lycra bindings because they help contain messes yet are gentle on little ones legs. Sugar had no red marks on her chubby thighs. The adjustable hook and loop closure is great for getting a perfect fit, but be sure to attach it before washing. I am one that prefers snaps over velcro, but even so I still love the Bummis Swimmi. Plus it is so simple to use. There is no need to put anything inside the swim diaper – just lay baby down on the Swimmi and attach the hook and loop closure – then you’re good to go!
There are a couple things I would love to see Bummis offer for the Swimmi. One I have already mentioned… snaps. I would love to see a snap option. Snaps just seem to hold up over time much better than velcro and Sugar has already started pulling at velcro tabs on some of her diapers. Another thing I would love to see is matching tops perhaps with an SPF in them. I love letting Sugar just wear the Swimmi when we are playing in the water because it is so cute, but a matching top would make it even better!
Not only will your little one look super cute sporting a Bummis Swimmi, but you will be saving lots of money. Considering you can purchase a Bummis Swimmi for about $14 and a small pack of disposable swim diapers cost approximately $10 your savings will really add up! Want to purchase your very own Swimmi?
