I love introducing my readers to work at home moms who make cloth diapers and today I have another amazing momma to introduce you too – Susan Mraz owner of Monkey Toes Diapers.
A bit about Susan: She has been married to her hubby for 10 years and has a beautiful son who is now 5. Susan’s inspiration for sewing cloth diapers actually came from her husband – how awesome is that! She loves to sew quilts and her hubby said “why not sew the cloth diapers for Allen.” And so Susan searched Google for diaper sewing patterns and that is where she found Very Baby and read up on the program to sew and sell and then bought in during 2005. Then in 2006 she bought Sugar Plum Baby so she could have her own diaper label and pattern. The name Monkey Toe Diapers comes from a game that Susan’s hubby would play with their son, when his feet were the cute soft baby feet her husband would say “I am going to eat your monkey toes.” Then pretend to eat them and Allen would giggle.
Susan has a BS degree in Business Management and then later found her love of sewing with a machine by making quilts. She then found the love of a serger and cloth diapers. Susan feels her diapers are cute/fun – not to mention they work! She has been sewing diapers since 2005 and has no plans to stop. And I couldn’t agree more! Susan is a Nykibaby One Size Diapers licensed seamstress and I simply adore the diaper she sent us to try out and I am sure you will too.
Sugar received the Nykibaby One Size Pocket Diaper in Ribit. Nykibaby Pocket Diapers are truly one size and fit from approximately 8 to 40 pounds. Seriously check out how small this diaper can get!
This is a rather small baby doll measuring only 13 inches long and you can see how well it fits around the legs! I definitely think this diaper would fit even the tiniest of newborns – something you can’t say for the vast majority of one size diapers.
I really like the unique welt-style pocket opening because it makes for easy stuffing end even easier to shake wet inserts out into the diaper pail. There really is very minimal shaking needing to get the insert out. We received the microfiber insert with out diaper which has three different size settings. When purchasing a Nykibaby Pocket Diaper from Susan they do not automatically come with an insert, but you do have the option of three different types of inserts ranging from $2 to $5 including the microfiber (pictured below), cotton bamboo trifold, and hemp bamboo insert.
This is one of my go to diaper for leaving the house. The fit around Sugar’s chunky thighs is snug and keeps everything where it belongs and leaves no red marks on her sensitive baby skin. Not to mention she looks super cute rockin this awesome diaper.
I love that Susan offers so many choices too – once you pick the solid or print for your Nykibaby One Size Pocket Diaper you also get to choose the snap color and the wicking layer! A truly custom diaper. Want to purchase your own? Check out Susan’s Etsy shop where you purchase a solid for $16 or a print for $18 – remember inserts are extra.
