We love books. You can find them everywhere in our house. In fact for the girls birthdays I ask that everyone get them a book and sign it instead of a card – I write this at the bottom of the invitations. It really helps build their library and keeps a fresh rotation of books coming in. When we decided to move the girls upstairs I thought it would be neat to have a cute yet functional way to display some of their favorite books and that is when I found Jennifer who owns Shop With Compassion on Etsy. Jennifer makes custom book slings that are absolutely gorgeous!
Dilly and Sugar received a purple paisley and orange book sling for their new orange room and a set of wall brackets. And as you can see they have it filled with their favorite books. Dilly’s absolute favorite Goodnight Moon is in there too but since it’s smaller you just can’t see it…
When we received the wall brackets they were the natural wood color, but we decided to paint them gray as well as the end of the dowel rods to match the girls room and to complement the paisley print. You can purchase the wall brackets in Jennifer’s shop separately for $15 plus shipping. However, Jennifer does not sell the dowel rods because when she calculated shipping costs it would be much more cost effective for the buyer to pick them up at their own local home improvement store. We picked ours up at Home Depot for a few dollars.
Each sling is made with 100% medium weight cotton and is 34″ long and 6 1/2″ deep. This length makes a 36″ dowel rod a perfect fit. Jennifer is also open to custom orders – so just shoot her a message if you would like a longer or shorter sling! All of the seams on our sling were very straight and strong and has held up exceptionally well to the
abuse… love… of our girls, hehe.
I love that these slings are so versatile. Since I chose a print that will be acceptable to older children and even teenagers I can see the girls still using this when they get older to hold – dare I say it – fashion magazines. Plus the size was perfect to utilize the space below the window that would normally just go to waste and placing it there made it a perfect height for Sugar to reach too. There are so many different places you could use a sling like this…. in the kitchen for cookbooks, in the bathroom for magazines, in an office to hold important papers, the possibilities are endless!
Now for the part that just made my heart turn to mush….. Jennifer’s about me section:
I sponsor 3 children through Compassion International. I am very passionate about these children and helping to remove the barriers that will keep them from reaching their fullest potential. I also love to create things that people are proud to display and use and I am excited to combine my two passions. The entire profit from every sale will be used to send gifts to my “children” in Colombia, Ecuador and Bangladesh!
So you can know when you make a purchase at Shop With Compassion not only are you getting a high quality book sling for yourself or your children, but you are also brightening another child’s day somewhere else in the world.
