Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

This morning I had a moment that made me go “hmmmmmm??”.  My neighbor across the street recently had shoulder surgery and asked if I could drive her oldest daughter to middle school each morning which I had no problem with, so for the past two weeks I have been driving her to school and having little bits of chit chat.  Today she hops in the car and has a book in her hand that immediately caught my attention…. yes the one on the right.

And so I start talking about how I have heard this is a really good book and that I think it’s a really neat idea to mash up English literature with Zombies.  Then I say “So what did you think of Pride and Prejudice?”  And she says “There was a JUST Pride and Prejudice without zombies??”  And I am thinking WHAT????

Yes, I am happy that she is reading!  She’s a straight A student in all advanced classes….. I just am amazed that she didn’t know that Pride and Prejudice existed.  My apologies Jane Austen.  How could you truly appreciate Pride and Prejudice and Zombies without first reading Pride and Prejudice.  Or at least watch the movie!

On another note…. I am glad she had the book because when she is finished she said she’ll let me borrow it.  Chances are I will appreciate it a bit more.  Thoughts?

Wow, that is sad that she didn’t know there was a “just” Pride and Prejudice. You will love the one with the zombies too. After you read it you should check out his other book “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.” It is great!!

  2. I’d say I’m surprised that she didn’t know there was “JUST” a Pride and Prejudice but really I’m not all that surprised! LOL 🙂

  3. Haha… I am not surprised. Kids are clueless these days 🙂

I’m a little surprised, but that’s only because my kids know about Pride and Prejudice. Having read both of the above books, you will have a much greater appreciation for the Zombies version having read the original! It was a fun read!

I am not sure how I feel about the way they keep re writing the classics to make them more ‘hip’. I love all the classic literature and just don’t think zombies are needed in pride and prejudice.
