When we first moved into our home Dustin and I decided to put carpeting through out since we would soon have a little one crawling about. However, we made the very bad choice of a light colored carpet and after having numerous cats and two babies the carpet was literally ruined. I knew there were hard wood floors underneath the destroyed carpet and asked Dustin if we could refinish the living room floor. He said yes and by the time he was home from work that evening the carpet was out of the house and I had pulled all the tack strips and staples out. We refinished the floor together and within a week had a beautiful hard wood floor. Then we ran into the problem of the floor feeling cold and well hard, hehe. And so we needed a beautiful high quality area rug to add some warmth to the living room and that is when I found Mohawk Home.
A bit about the company: Mohawk Industries is one of the foremost manufacturers and distributors of residential and commercial flooring in the world. We enjoy leading market positions across multiple flooring categories, including carpet, ceramic tile, stone, wood and rugs in the United States and laminate in the U.S. and Europe. Mohawk dates its roots to the 1800′s when it became one of the first American carpet manufacturers. Today the company is headquartered in Calhoun, Georgia with operations on three continents.
Mohawk has SO many rugs to choose from and in tons of sizes too. We have a rather small living room and so an 8×5 area rug would be the perfect fit in from of our couch. I spent hours looking through all the options on all of the Mohawk online retailers websites and finally settles on the “Outer Limits” rectangle rug. This rug is seriously gorgeous and has so many colors in it that I could use it in numerous rooms or change the colors in my living room without replacing my area rug – though Dustin might freak out if I said I wanted to paint the living room, hehe. There are tans, browns, reds, greens, and even a light blue in this rug and they all blend together in a beautiful harmony. It has the artistic flair of an abstract painting and adds a bit of drama to the room it is being used in. It has been machine woven and the top is made of 100% Olefin while the backing is 4.5oz latex clear coat. Obviously it would be impossible to throw a huge area rug in the washing machine and so this is spot clean only and it is recommended to vacuum frequently to help the rug maintain an attractive appearance. And well with two little ones running about and the little boy I babysit it is safe to say this rug gets vacuumed a minimum of once a day in our household and it still looks absolutely gorgeous. Check out these before and after shots of our living room. The Outer Limited Mohawk area rug definitely warmed up the space and made it more inviting.
Mohawk does recommend using a non-skid pad beneath this rug and I agree. Currently our rug slides all over the place especially when the girls come charging into the living room, so a non-skid pad is definitely something you would want to invest in when purchasing an area rug. Other wise I love love love this rug. It is super high quality, feels very soft under your feet, and is reasonably priced! You can grab the 8×5 size for $149.99 which is awesome. So if you are in need of an area rug or any flooring needs for that matter definitely check out Mohawk. I guarantee you will find something you like! And guess what. One lucky reader here at Happenings of the Harper Household will be receiving their very own Mohawk area rug up to size 8×5. To enter simply fill out the Rafflecopter entry form below. Good luck!
