One of the most important things for a new parent to know, in my opinion, is how to make a safe sleeping environment for their newborn. Just because stores sell elaborate crib sets for astronomical prices does not mean that your child needs one and does not mean they are safe. In fact one item that the vast majority of crib sets come with is one of the leading causes of SIDS – crib bumpers. I literally cringe when I look over a baby registry and see crib bumpers or a crib set listed. My stomach gets in knots when I see pictures of a baby nursery all ready for the arrival of a precious newborn with a crib full of bumpers, quilts, and pillows. And I know that some parents are simply not aware of the dangers these seemingly harmless objects possess.
One of my favorite companies that is dedicated to safe sleep is HALO. Founder William Schmid began researching sleeping environments after he and his wife lost a daughter to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 1991. Since 1994, he and his company have worked to develop products such as the original HALO® SleepSack® wearable blanket that encourage healthier and safer sleeping as well as bring peace of mind to parents. Today, the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket is the #1 trusted choice of hospitals nationwide and a percentage of all sales are donated to First Candle/SIDS Alliance and the Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths to fund ongoing SIDS research, education and family support.
Dilly and Sugar both have HALO SleepSacks and I also recently posted a review/giveaway about the new HALO ComfortLuxe Sleepwear. I am a huge fan of HALO products… and that is why I was thrilled to find out that HALO is going to be carrying NEW Safe Sleep Crib Sets starting in January of 2012!
Each set will include a HALO SleepSack Wearable Blanket – small, SleepSack Swaddle – newborn, (2) coordinating crib sheets in soft cotton jersey, and a matching crib skirt. According to Bill Schmid, “Too often parents ‘overdress’ the crib with a quilt and bumpers, both of which can pose a breathing threat for baby.” The Halo SleepSack and SleepSack Swaddle are the only things a baby needs in the crib to stay warm and sleeping safely, and the soft jersey sheet provides a snug fit on the mattress. And I must say I 100% agree! Baby Harper #3 will definitely be getting one of the HALO Safe Sleep Crib Sets. Now just to wait and see what Baby Harper #3 will be so that I can choose between one of the 6 available patterns – there will be pinks, blues, and neutral tones. Check out just a few pictures of these awesome sets – a must for every baby!
I know you are just as excited as me about these amazing new HALO Safe Sleep Crib Sets which will be available very soon – January 2012! In the mean time HALO would love to celebrate with you by offering my awesome readers a giveaway for either a SleepSack Wearable Blanket or SleepSack Swaddle.
