Yarn Ball Handmade Christmas Ornaments

I absolutely adore our Christmas tree this year and all the handmade ornaments give it this warm fuzzy feeling that just doesn’t come from shiny glass ornaments.  Even though we didn’t use glass or shatterproof ornaments I decided that I still wanted ball shaped handmade ornaments to hang from the tree and so I came up with this idea.

SUPPLIES:

  1. styrofoam balls
  2. yarn
  3. thick thread
  4. buttons
  5. hot glue gun & sticks

Begin by putting a small dab of hot glue on the styrofoam ball and attach yarn in a squished u shape.  Continue to apply small amount of glue in a circular pattern and wrap the yarn around the ball until the ball is completely covered.

Once the ball is completely covered select a button, cut a piece of thread, thread it through the button and tie.  Then glue the button to either the top or bottom of the ball – where you either started or stopped with the yarn.  Glue the button top down so that it curves to the ball.

Once you are done hang on the tree and enjoy!

You can experiment with different size styrofoam balls or even try to use shatterproof ornaments in different shapes.  It would also be neat to try to use a few different colors of yarn on one ornament…. the possibilities are truly endless. Plus they just look adorable on the tree!
