DIY Project: Bringing Life to Ugly Trinkets

Since I selected a theme for Willow’s nursery that it seems has never been done before I have been doing lots of “do it yourself” projects to make things exactly how I want them.  If you’re new around here the theme for her room is squirrels and acorns done in brown, pink, tan, and white.  And so I am going to start sharing my little projects with you – most of which could be changed to fit any theme you can dream up.  And so here is the first one.

HOW TO BRING LIFE TO OLD/UGLY TRINKETS

Materials:
trinkets/figurines – check out garage sales, ebay, goodwill, etc.
spray primer
spray paint

I scoured the internet, garage sales, and thrift stores for old/ugly squirrel and acorn figurines… and I finally found these!  Their really not that ugly, but I just wanted them to pop and to match her room…

So the first step was to wipe any dirt off of them and let them dry.  And then I sprayed them with primer to get a good base coat.  Pssst…. do this outside and put down a piece of cardboard so your hubby doesn’t get mad!

Once the primer was completely dry it was time to make them POP!  I spray painted the acorn bottom pink and top brown.  Then I spray painted the squirrels a glossy white.  I did two coats on each item.  So cute!

When they were completely dried I took them into Willow’s nursery and displayed them on the adorable floating shelves I found at Home Depot!  Oh I had also found some cute wooden letters and did the same thing with them, so they are displayed on the shelves as well.

And it’s that simple!  You can find ugly or old trinkets for a couple bucks each… grab some paint… and you have gorgeous décor!  I already have some owl wall hangings I plan to do this with in mine and hubby’s room!
