Occasionally I like to present my awesome readers with an informative guest post…. well this is one of those times, hehe. So read on to learn more about keeping on-line shopping safe and secure!
Such is the world we live in today: on-line shopping. This is practically akin to virtual shopping, since you only get hands-on with the items you buy when these get delivered, and payment transactions have already been consummated. But is it really just that easy? How about the fear that you would get cheated of your hard-earned money?
Shopping on-line means that you have to pay for the item/-s first before these get delivered. Thus it is important that you check out thoroughly the seller of the item/-s you want to buy, if said vendor is legitimate. Previous buyer feedback and testimonials can help ease your doubts here. Also, the established on-line markets like e-Bay and Multiply certify their trusted sellers or merchants. These certifications in effect guarantee buyer protection so that you are assured of a refund option if the transaction did not turn out as you had hoped.
Payment for on-line shopping can be done in several ways.
First, you can pay by credit card. When using this option be careful to secure your payment details. The on-line vendors are tasked to keep all your confidential information at all costs, so your card and account numbers do not leak out. Also, they are supposed to handle payment transactions in encrypted page, so just make sure you are taken to a secure site. Check your browser address if it contains a ‘lock’ icon. Also, the site address should begin with an ‘https’ instead of the usual ‘http’, which would be another indication that you are on a secure page.
Second, you can pay with your debit card. These cash cards or bank ATM cards carry the Visa or Mastercard logo, and carry 16-digit card numbers as well. Debit card balances are entirely controlled by you – you put in, or deposit, what you mean to spend. This is good for you if you are more of an impulse shopper, since you can only spend that amount which you put into the card’s account, so you avoid over-spending by not buying on a whim. The disadvantage of using your debit card is that in instances of failed transactions, you are less-protected than if you used a credit card. A wrong credit card transaction can be easily corrected while with a debit card it may take longer to ‘put the money back into the account’ since technically, cash was used to make the payment.
Third, you can use the PayPal facility. Here you still use either your credit or debit card, but you first create an account with PayPal. In this manner, they become your payment ‘broker’ and handle the payment transaction for you. All that is needed is for you to input your PayPal username and password; the merchant does not get to store your payment information data on his end. What’s more, PayPal is accepted world-wide, so while some stores only accept US-based credit cards they also accept Paypal, which means you still have the chance to buy from them.
Buying clothes, or shoes for that matter, can be difficult because of the sizing factor. However, most on-line clothing shops have a sizing chart with corresponding size measurement equivalents. When buying clothes on-line make sure you have your measurements ready so you can estimate which size on the chart you will get. The sizing chart will tell you how to do the measurements. Read also the user reviews since previous buyers can give you insights to the sizing tendencies of the fabric and/or the clothes — if the size runs small go one-up, or if the fabric stretches enough you can go one-down.
You’ve only seen the item you want to buy in photographs that the merchant posted, so you actually buy the item ‘blind.’ Ensure therefore that the shop you are buying from offers either refunds or returns/exchanges. International merchants do this, but they won’t shoulder the extra shipping costs so be prepared to pay for these just in case.
With courier services, local delivery time guarantees until 2-days delivery after payment, while provincial ones can take up to five. International deliveries can take anywhere from two to three weeks after shipment date – you can request for faster shipping but you will have to bear the costs. Moreover, international shipments, depending on the merchandise, can be subjected to import duties so be prepared to deal with Customs as well.
On-line shopping can be enjoyable, considering the convenience it brings. You can even buy items without leaving your computer, what with on-line banking services available to you Just ensure that you are dealing with legitimate merchants, and don’t forget to check cell phones for sale cheap discounts.
