Summer time is finally here – yay!! That means it’s time for swimming and lots of it. Trust me being pregnant it feels so nice to be almost weightless in the water. So Alleigh and Kaelyn are both taking swim lessons every Friday morning, we fill up the kiddie pool in the back yard quite often, and also head to the local swimming pools at least once or more a week. Thankfully Alleigh is now 100% potty trained, but I still needed a swim diaper solution for Kaelyn. Since we are a cloth diapering household it seemed only fitting that we also use cloth swim diapers – makes sense! And so I was so excited to try out the Bummis Swimmi and Tankini, but the great thing is you don’t have to be a cloth diapering family to use a cloth swim diaper and they will save you tons of money over the summer months especially if you like to swim as much as we do.
So let’s talk about the Swimmi first. This adorable cloth swim diaper is available in six different prints and four sizes ranging from 9 pounds to 30+. I decided to go for the Bubbles print because I love the pink and orange – plus it’s really girly. There are also boy and gender neutral prints as well. And so these cotton prints are on the outside where as on the inside you will find a coated nylon layer and closest to baby a polyester mesh. These nylon and mesh layers will definitely keep in the messiest of messes. In fact when Kaelyn was wearing her Swimmi earlier today she walked over to the kiddie pool and let out the loudest fart I have ever heard come out of a little girl – sorry if that’s a bit TMI, hehe. I asked her if she pooped and she said no. Ya see she always informs us if she needs changed so I trusted that it indeed was just gas. After playing for quite a while it was time to get dried off and get dressed to come inside… and well when I took that Swimmi off let’s just say she didn’t choose to inform mama that time! But the good news is that super messy poop stayed right where it was supposed to and didn’t leak out at all. Plus around the legs and waist is stretchy soft lycra bindings which means no red marks on your little ones tender skin. And I love the adjustable hook and loop closure because it ensures you get the best fit possible… sometimes with snaps the setting might be a little too snug or a little too loose and there really is nothing you can do about it. Not to mention it is very trim and super cute!
I was never so happy as when I saw Bummis had introduced the matching Tankini! Last year when I was browsing around at cloth swim diapers I kept wishing that a company would make a matching top because the swim diapers are just too cute to cover up with a bathing suit and as my girls were getting older I didn’t want them running around topless. And Bummis came through for me. The Tankini is available in two different colors – both of which coordinate well with all the Swimmi prints so you can mix and match to your hearts content. They are available in two sizes: 0-12 months and 12-24 months. Kaelyn currently is wearing a size 3T in most clothing and she still fits just fine in the 12-24 month size with her buddha belly completely covered, hehe. The halter clip has three adjustable settings and I really love the swimsuit-quality supplex which makes the Tankini very soft and durable, plus it prevents fading in chlorinated pools. Now that there is an adorable option to keep little girls top halves covered and protected from the sun I think it would be awesome if Bummis came out with a rash guard version for all their lil boy fans – just a thought!
And how stinkin cute does Kaelyn look rockin her Swimmi & Tankini!
