Now obviously I can not leave this wordless…. because that would just be mean. And so this is my story from last night.
Dustin was on afternoons which means he works from 4PM to midnight. When it was time for bed (8PM) I took Alleigh and Kaelyn up to their room. Kaelyn almost always lays right down and goes to sleep, but regardless if Alleigh uses the restroom before bed she is up numerous times saying things like “I need to pee again,” “I need to poop,” “My feet are cold,” “The air conditioner is too loud”…. I could go on and on. She had come downstairs numerous times and had actually went back up and tucked herself back in, but probably about the 5th time it had gotten very dark in their room and so she refused to go put herself back in bed. Now aside from being hugely pregnant I have terrible knees (3 knee surgeries to be exact) and so I absolutely hate having to go upstairs more than necessary – this is one of the reasons their bedroom is upstairs and ours is not. Anyhow…. I trudged upstairs and tucked her back in, whispered that she better not get out of bed again, and attempted to hurry out of their room. I use the word attempted because I didn’t quite make it. Instead I tripped over one of their chairs from the table & chair set that are usually ALL put away around the table which is NOT in the direct path of the doorway. Except for last night obviously. When I tripped it was pitch black… I had no idea where I was falling and couldn’t even attempt to catch myself. First my huge belly landed on the top of the chair back, my thigh hit the chair seat, my face slammed into the floor, as did my shoulder, and I just lay there.
Alleigh whispers from the bed “Did you fall momma?” And at this point I am so upset I whisper back “YES, AND YOU BETTER NOT GET OUT OF BED AGAIN.” After a few minutes I gather myself, roll over, and slowly get up. I walk slowly downstairs and call my hubby. He says it would be a good idea to call Dr. Domingo and so I do. I get a hold of one of the nurses and she tells me it would be best that I head into Labor & Delivery to be monitored just to make sure lil Willow is alright….. at this point my stomach and face are in severe pain and I can barely walk. I call Dustin and he tells his boss that his wife fell and she is 30 weeks pregnant and he has to leave – luckily his boss is understanding and told him to immediately clock out and go home. Once he got here I headed to the hospital. Yes, I drove…. but we are literally three to five minutes from the hospital depending on traffic lights. Once I got there I saw the emergency room waiting area was packed and was SO thankful that I would immediately be taken up to the Labor & Delivery triage.
Once I got there and was checked in I was hooked up to machines to monitor Willow’s heart rate and movements. Everything looked great – her heart rate was around the 140 range and she had started to move around again once I had laid down in the quiet triage room. Then the resident OB walked in and informed me that hospital protocol after a pregnant woman has fallen is to monitor them for 4 HOURS. It was now 10PM which meant I would be there til 2AM. And let me tell you I got no rest because my Willow Jean decided to be a wiggle worm and about every ten minutes the nurses has to readjust the monitor to keep track of her heart rate no matter how still I sat there.
I am so thankful that there was no bleeding, leaking of fluid, and that Willow is perfectly fine. The only problem is that I have lots of bruises and am super sore, but within a few days I should be back to normal. I had never fallen during a pregnancy and I will tell you that it scared me SO badly and the entire time until I got the monitors hooked up to me I just kept telling myself that at least I was 30 weeks along and if something was to go terribly wrong that she would make it. But praise God that was not the case. And she can continue to bake as long as she needs to…. preferably about 8 weeks!
And so that was my evening…. and from now on I will be making sure that the path from the girls beds to the doors is always clear before leaving the room after tucking them in. Either that or my dear Alleigh can tuck herself back in!
