I never had many issues with my skin as a teenager, but lately I have begun to realize that I really need to start a skin care routine. And so I have begun looking into microdermabrasion and thought a guest post would be fun… so read on to learn some more.
If you’ve ever had problems with clogged pores, then you may be familiar with the
concept of exfoliation, and in particular, microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a procedure that involves removing the top layer of dead cells and impurities from the skin with crystals. If you have particularly oily skin, you’ll find that your pores tend to get clogged quite often. Even when you’re washing daily with exfoliating scrubs, white heads and blackheads can still form, leaving skin mottled and bumpy.
That’s why this procedure can be so effective. It whisks off the dead, dry skin you may not be able to remove with regular soaps and treatments. In a spa or clinical setting, this can be very costly. If your income and time is limited like most people, getting professional microdermabrasion isn’t going to be an option.
Luckily, you don’t have to visit a spa to achieve great and lasting results. You can whip up an effective exfoliating scrub at home with common household products, saving you precious time and money.
When creating your homemade scrub, it’s best to only use it once a week. You don’t want to aggravate your skin by using it too often, as this can lead to rawness, irritation and burns.
One of the most simple and effective recipes involves sugar as the primary exfoliant. Simply combine a cup of white sugar with a half a cup of olive oil and mix well. Add a teaspoon of lemon or lime juice. Essential oils are excellent for keeping skin lush and healthy, so add a few drops of your favorite extracts.
You can also use brown sugar in place of white sugar, or even salt if you don’t have sugar. Adding a teaspoon or two of vanilla extract will also give the scrub a luscious scent.
When you’re not creating your own exfoliants, you can find a plethora of affordable microdermabrasion kits online at retailers like ShopNBC. Microdermabrasion at home can be fun and easy, so experiment with which products work best and you’ll have perfect, radiant skin in no time.

I had SUCH bad skin when I was in high school! Microdermabrasion really made a difference. I love that now there are do-it-yourself kits, because it can be expensive to go to a dermatologist!
I like the home remedy idea. The spa stuff scares me. I always think of the people on tv shows who come out with super red faces – yikes!
The at home way sounds great! I love that they are all products that we already (typically) have in our homes and they aren’t full of chemicals! Great post! Thanks for sharing!
I love spa stuff. Especially at home stuff that makes me feel pampered! Thanks for sharing. This looks like something I would totally love.
Love homeopathic remedies! This sounds great!
