I’m definitely not a girly girl, but Alleigh and Kaelyn have seen me apply makeup on occasion… if the hubby and I are going on a date, for pictures, special occasions. They do, however, see their Nana Rusnak and Aunt Courtney put on makeup all the time and so they developed a fascination with these little brushes and cosmetic cases full of pretty colors. I was not about to purchase real makeup for my two and four year old to play with even if it was designed for their age level, but I am all about letting them pretend so I was very excited to learn about Little Cosmetics.
I remember when I was little having pretend makeup kits where the makeup was plastic and let’s just say that totally didn’t fool me and so I knew something like that would not fool my girls either. But Little Cosmetics is so different than those old pretend kits. First of all Little Cosmetics is completely pretend, but it does not look or feel pretend. It actually looks just like real makeup as you will see in the pictures below. And in regards to feeling real – the contents are spongy like material instead of being hard plastic.

What I love about this pretend makeup is that even though it looks and feels real to the touch it will not show up on skin. So no worries about how much makeup your little one decides to put on or where they decide to play with it – like the couch.
Now I will be honest…. I was still a bit skeptical about how the girls would react to this makeup since it wasn’t actually showing up on their skin when they applied it, but they absolutely loved it! In fact they played and played and played with it. It has been a very long time since I have seen anything hold their attention for so long. They even wanted to put makeup on me, Nana Rusnak, Aunt Courtney…. even on my belly so baby sister could look pretty too, hehe. They definitely had a great time playing with their very own makeup kit. And I loved that we were mess free!

My girls would absolutely love this. I have a 5 and 3 yr old and we have bought the pretend “plastic” makeup before and although she was excited to see it in the box when we opened it she was a little dissapointed that the makeup was “hard”. I think this is a brilliant idea and i cannot wait for my girls to play with it.
