I absolutely love baby wearing. Love love love it. You just can’t beat that snuggling that you would other wise miss out on if your little one was strapped in their infant car seat or riding in a stroller. Not to mention I have very rarely seen a baby that is being worn in a baby carrier fuss or cry – but in a stroller or infant car seat…. all the time. And that is why I have always worn my girls if I take them grocery shopping – it drives me nutso to hear crying babies in the grocery store especially when I know they probably just want held. Plus you can go many places that a stroller simply wouldn’t be able to like hiking through the woods… which is exactly what we did today. Willow was a happy camper while she slept through the entire hike snug against mama in the BabaSling Lite by Joovy.
The BabaSling is a hammock style sling that can be used in five different carrying positions from birth (7.7 pounds) to 2 years old (33 pounds). The original BabaSling is available in classic/print/organic and weighs 1.04 pounds while the BabaSling Lite is 24% lighter at only .79 pounds. I decided to go with the BabaSling Lite because it is great for warm days and active parents. Since I use my carriers a lot when we are hiking and working up a bit of a sweat the BabaSling Lite seemed the way to go.
As you can see in the images above the BabaSling has lots of great features. The fully adjustable straps and comfy dual railings make this a truly one size fits all sling that will work for mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa… you name it! Though since I chose the fuchsia BabaSling my chances of getting Dustin to wear it are slim to none, hehe. It can be worn on either the right or left shoulder and I love the extra-padded shoulder support. This is one of the few carriers I have tried that didn’t feel like it was digging into my neck or shoulder after wearing it for more than a half hour.
As I mentioned before there are five different carrying positions as well as two different breastfeeding positions. I absolutely love carriers that allow mama to discreetly breastfeed because it stops those unnecessary glances and there is no need to cover baby with a nursing cover or blanket. Right now Willow is most comfortable in the Koala Cuddle position, but there is also the Easy Tiger, Sleeping Tiger, Little Joey, and Side Saddle.
Each BabaSling comes with a manual that gives detailed descriptions and step by step instructions for how to get baby comfortably and safely situated in each carrying position. However, I will be very honest… I had a heck of a time getting it figured out at first because there just seemed to be so much fabric in the hammock part of the sling and no matter what I did I just didn’t feel like I had Willow positioned properly. So I went to the Joovy website where I discovered videos for each carrying position. For me it was much easier to actually watch someone moving the baby through the steps as they explained them than to only use the wording and pictures. Once I watched the videos I was able to get Willow into the Koala Cuddle position without a problem and we were both very comfortable. In this position the padded railings are behind babies knees and neck/head making them very snug and secure. So comfortable that she slept through our entire hike today!
And when we were finished with our hike I was able to easily reach up over my shoulder to unsnap the quick release buckle without disturbing and waking up my sleeping baby – this is a must in a carrier! One other thing that is super important – the BabaSling is machine washable. Simply toss it in the washing machine if when it gets dirty and then hang to dry. So easy!
And so if you are looking for a baby carrier that is comfy for you and baby, lightweight, will work through the toddler years, is machine washable, and comes in super cute colors/prints then the BabaSling is definitely for you. Check out all the different color options on the Joovy website where you can grab one for $99 (Lite/Solid Colors) or $119 (Print/Organic).
