A few weeks before Willow arrived I asked my readers if they were interested in hearing about some cloth diapers when it comes to a newborn. Well of course that question got a big yes and today I am bringing you Willow’s first cloth diaper review.
I am a big fan of Thirsties cloth diapers – in fact I’ve featured the Duo Diaper as well as Duo Fab Fitted and wrap here on the blog. And today I am going to talk about the Duo All In One in size 1 which fits from approximately 6-18 pounds. Willow was born weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces and so she was a rather big newborn, but she still had the little skinny thighs that tend to pose a problem when trying to cloth diaper such a young baby. On to the diaper..
The Thirsties Duo All In One Diaper is available in a variety of colors and prints as well as aplix or snap closure. I decided to go with the Scottish Rose argyle print which is absolutely stunning and snaps because from my experience in the cloth diapering world aplix tends to wear out rather quickly. Not only is the outside of this diaper super cute, but it is made out of 100% polyester with waterproof urethane coating. Even though the outside is adorable the inside of the Duo AIO is equally if not more so impressive.
On the interior the lining is made of 100% polyester microfiber and the soaker from 100% polyester – 3 layers of microfiber terry which absorbs seven times its weight in liquid. Not to mention how super soft the soaker is… nothing but the softest material against my babies little bottom! Hehe. Oh and I love the tunnel design that Thirsties uses with their soaker. It not only allows for better washing and faster drying times, but you can also add extra absorbency. At the moment the Duo AIO has the perfect amount of absorbency for Willow, but she is a breastfed newborn which means she poops frequently and therefore means she is changed frequently. As she gets a little older, goes a bit longer between diaper changes, and pees more at one time I will be able to add extra absorbency under the tunnel created by the soaker – perhaps the Thirsties hemp inserts or Fab Doublers.
And now for the fit! There is gentle elastic around the leg openings and waist which provide protection against leaks yet doesn’t dig into the skin so no red marks on babies delicate skin. Plus the adjustable rise snaps guarantee a perfect fit no matter what size your little one. Check out that nice snug fit even around a newborn’s skinny legs. Not to mention this diaper sits well below the belly button so you can use it before the umbilical cord falls off.
This is definitely a diaper that I would recommend stocking up on for a newborn because it not only will fit great during that first month but for months to follow as well unlike a newborn only all in one style diaper. I’m looking forward to using this diaper until Willow reaches 18 pounds! And no worries once your little one surpasses the 18 pound mark the Duo All In One is also available in size 2 which fits from 18 to 40 pounds.
And I also want to share a bit about the company that I really like…. all Thirsties products are USA-made by a group of very talented women, many of whom work in the comfort and convenience of their own homes. How awesome is that? So be sure to visit the Thirsties website to see all the great products that these super talented woman have whipped up! Oh and guess what? One lucky Happenings of the Harper Household reader will win a Thirsties Duo All In One cloth diaper. To enter fill out the Rafflecopter form below. Good luck!
