K’NEX: New & Improved Tinkertoys Building Sets

Do you remember playing with Tinkertoys when you were a little munchkin?  I absolutely loved them…. except the fact that the sticks were wooden and if stepped on they would crack in half leaving them totally useless.  And so when I found that K’NEX had put a modern twist on this almost one hundred year old toy (invented by Charles Pajeau in 1914) I just knew I had to try them out…. I mean my kiddos wanted to try them out, hehe.

The Tinkertoy set we received was the Vehicles Building Set which came with 78 pieces, 10 building ideas, and a sturdy cardboard box to store everything inside.  And let me tell ya – these are definitely not the Tinkertoys from my childhood – they are a million times better!

All of the pieces are now made of durable plastic that will not crack in half if they happen to get stepped on – though it may hurt your foot a little.  Plus all of the pieces snap together which means your creations stay together and IMG_4353can be played with instead of only admired.  And there are some truly unique pieces like the bendable rods, big wheels, hinge pieces, and a little man with two hair pieces that can “drive” all of the masterpieces your little one dreams up.  The girls and I had a blast snapping together the pieces to build everything from trucks to helicopters.  At first I was helping Alleigh to build the vehicles that looked a little more difficult, but soon she was putting them together all on her own.  Then the girls were driving and flying their creations all over the living room!  Check it out.

IMG_4368At K’NEX they realize that play is the work of childhood that in turn leads to the development of many important skills and abilities.  And Tinkertoys are the perfect product to help build your child’s imagination and creativity.  Plus while playing with Tinkertoys they will also improve motor skills such as hand-eye coordination, find joy in building unique creations, see their imagination come to life in a tangible object, improve social skills as they build with friends/siblings, as well as improve language skills as they explain their creations.

These new and improved Tinkertoys by K’NEX definitely get the Harper Household seal of approval and would make an awesome Christmas present.  Plus there are even more sets that will just add to the fun including animals, transit, circus, and even a pink set for the girls!  And I can’t forget to mention that their made in the United States!  Check them out at the K’NEX website – I’m sure your kiddos will love them too…. that is if they can pry them outta your fingers, hehe.
