Super Simple Homemade Pumpkin Seed Recipe

Have you carved pumpkins yet?  If so, I hope you didn’t toss the seeds!

Homemade Pumpkin Seeds

Homemade Pumpkin Seed Recipe

1.)  Pick out the perfect pumpkin.
2.)  Carve the pumpkin and save the guts – check out my carving tips!
3.)  Separate the seeds from the pulp – perhaps watch a Halloween movie, this step takes the longest, hehe.
4.)  Rinse off the pumpkin seeds – using a strainer makes this super simple.
5.)  Soak in a salt water mixture for roughly 24 hours.
6.)  Drain salt water, spread seeds out in a thin layer, sprinkle with salt, and let dry for at least 8 hours – preferably over night.
7.)  Spread a small amount of vegetable oil on a baking sheet.  Spread seeds in a single layer on the baking sheet.
8.)  Bake for 45 minutes at 300°F.  Open the oven and shake baking sheet around about every 10 minutes to flip seeds.
9.)  Remove from oven and let cool completely.  Store in air tight container.
10.)  Enjoy!

This is how I used to do it as well. But many times I can’t wait for the soaking and drying so I rinse, let them dry in the strainer for a while, then coat in olive oil and salt and bake. One of my favorite snacks! I love your pictures :)

We love making pumpkin seeds at this time of year. I threw them all away before I even thought of it! lol Since my oldest’s pumpkin didn’t turn out well I need to get him a new one tomorrow. I’ll save the seeds and try out this recipe!
