It’s no secret that I love diaper bags and have a rather large selection to choose from when getting ready to head out for the day, but what I didn’t have was a guy friendly diaper bag.  There are many times when Dustin takes Alleigh and Kaelyn places without me and needs a bag to toss some pull-ups, change of clothes, sippy cups, and other necessities into but none of my bags were cutting it for him.  And well I can’t blame him since most of my diaper bags either look like DadGearpurses or have a floral pattern, hehe.  Then one day I found DadGear and I knew I had found the solution to our diaper bag dilemma.

DadGear offers an extensive line of diaper bags, vests, jackets, and child carriers that are all designed for dads, by dads – how awesome is that?  It all started back in 2003 when Scott Shoemaker and John Brosseau, DadGear cofounders, were bonding over a plate of nachos and talking about the precious little ones in their lives that had embarked them on the journey called fatherhood.  They were both frustrated with the lack of masculine functional diaper bags and neither of them wanted to carry around a flowery bag – reminds me of Dustin!  So they set out to fix that problem and officially launched DadGear in the Spring of 2005.

DadGear ReviewWhen I told Dustin about DadGear and their great selection of masculine diaper bags he was excited to pick one out for himself and ended up choosing the Messenger Bag in Stone Flyer.  He really likes that from the outside this bag does not look like a diaper bag at all and the fact that it’s not gender neutral – instead it shouts masculinity and reflects his personal style perfectly.

Aside from looking awesome the DadGear Messenger Bag is full of awesome features that put it a step above the rest.  In fact it even has some features that my diaper bags don’t that are seriously brilliant.  One in particular is the patented quick access wipes case – simply fill the blue case with wipes, slide into the pocket on the inside of the diaper bag and when you open the flap they are available through a specially designed window.  This means no digging around in the diaper bag every time you need a wipe.  With one hand you can grab a wipe and attend to the mess at hand.

This bag is a great size at 17”W by 12”H by 6”D and easily holds a day worth (if not more) of childcare essentials while staying completely organized.  There are two bottle pockets that are also the perfect size for sippy cups which can be accessed from either inside or outside the bag – yet they aren’t visible from outside the bag.  Plus there are lots more pockets on the inside for organizing everything so it is easy to find as well as an outside pocket that fits the included changing pad perfectly to avoid cross contamination.  Another absolutely brilliant feature is that the inside of the diaper bag is a lighter color which makes finding things much easier… so many of my bags seem like a bottomless black pit – I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about…. you never know what will be at the bottom!

And now for the feature that you won’t find anywhere else….the DadGear Messenger Bag is customizable by switching out the removable front flap.  Once you have purchased one DadGear Messenger Bag there are many more front flaps to choose from so that Dad can switch up his style or you can utilize this function when switching the bag between parents.  Since the only thing that changes is the flap all of the childcare necessities will remain inside and there will be no reason to pack and unpack – just change the flap.  I chose the Retro Pink flap so that I can also use this way awesome diaper bag – can’t let Dustin have all the fun, hehe.  Plus it is really easy to change the flaps because they simply Velcro together – so simple.

No matter how awesome a bag looks or what cool features it has nothing matters if the quality isn’t there and let me tell ya – this bag is super high quality.  From the hardware to zippers to fabric DadGear products are built to last and I love that the vast majority of their products are made in the United States.  DadGear is proud to be supporting the USA economy as well as local Colorado businesses and jobs and in turn I am proud to feature them here at Happenings of the Harper Household.

If you are looking for a bag that the man in your life will be proud to carry when toting the little ones around I highly suggest checking out DadGear.  There is definitely something there to fit every man’s style and a few pieces for the awesome women in their life too, hehe.

I love it! Hubby would be thrilled to have something like this, and so would I…we just have a very plain, boring diaper bag right now so there is no danger of it looking like a purse or whatever.
If he had something like this, then I could have my frilly one!

  2. Ya know, I never did ever get hubby a diaper bag. I always thought about it (this time) but never got around to it. I think I’m going to head over to their site and take a look around and see if there is one he’d like. Thanks for the info.

  3. That is super cool! My husband would so prefer this over my girly bags! I will have to look into this – thank you for sharing this!
