Since Willow’s birthday fell on Sunday this year I decided to have her party on her actual birthday. We went with a ladybug theme and it was absolutely adorable. On Saturday evening I went over to my parents house to decorate. They always let me use their house for the girls parties which I am super thankful for because our house is just too small.
So let’s start with the decorations. I always make handmade banners for my girls birthday using cardstock. I also hang crepe paper everywhere and use tons of balloons. There was tons of red, black, and white everywhere.
I also chose 12 of my favorite pictures from Willow’s first year and hung them on a little makeshift clothesline using clothespins I had painted red with black polka dots all over them.
I also tried my hand at decorating Willow’s smash cake like a ladybug and I also iced the cupcakes to look like grass with little sugar ladybugs on top. Oh and I also made candy dipped pretzels. Oh so yummy! Plus water bottle labels. I was definitely a baking crafty mama this week.
For food we chowed down on pizza, chips, and fruit. Willow loved it.
Then the kiddos headed out to play in the bounce house. Check out Willow’s outfit. I bought the red lace romper and then added the black dots using fabric paint and a round sponge brush so she looked more ladybuggish.
Next it was time for the piñata which I also made myself. I estimate probably about 6ish hours in it, but worth every second. Even Willow tried to hit it and there were some baby toys inside for the smallest party guests and candy for the older kiddos.
After all the piñata fun it was time for presents. Willow had some help from her big sisters to rip the paper off, but she did pretty good herself too. She even got an adorable squirrel shirt… I might have been more excited than her, hehe. She also got some really fun toys.
Between gifts and cake I took a moment to grab a family picture…. because I was sure after cake Willow’s hair and outfit wouldn’t be the same, hehe.
And then it was smash cake time… Willow took that quite literally. And then it was straight to the kitchen sink for a bath.
Once she was all scrubbed up and clean again I wrapped her in a ladybug towel and she was ready to get into those birthday toys.
Willow had a wonderful birthday and I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I have a one year old. That year flew by unbelievably fast.
