As a busy mom, I’m always looking for those little helpers that can make my life just a bit easier. You know, those items for little ones that aren’t quite mobile enough to really entertain themselves for long. So I was really excited to try out the Kolcraft Tiny Steps 2-in-1 Walker in our home!

The Kolcraft Tiny Steps Walker is literally the 2-in-1 that it says. For younger babies that aren’t yet able to take steps, the Tiny Steps Walker is a traditional activity walker with a seat for baby to sit in. When baby is old enough to walk with assistance, it converts to a walk-behind toy to aid in balance and stability while taking those little steps. To convert it, you simply unlatch the seat, remove it, and rotate the back support bar to the front (it becomes a handle for baby to hold onto). My big boys really wanted to model how it is used as a walk-behind walker, but they just ended up having fun with the activity center!

Ezra also seems to be quite fond of his new walker. I’m not sure if it’s the freedom to stand up on his own, or some of the fun features. First, the bright primary colors make it very appealing to little eyes. It has an Electronic Discovery Center that attaches on the front that includes light, music, and whimsical sounds, and two brightly colored rubber toys that he’s loving to bat at and chew on. The front of the walker is a tray so I can add more toys for extra fun. I’m sure when he starts solids it will also be a great place for snacks and little chunks of food.

For me, I’m fond of some of the more practical features. There is a plush, foam-filled, easy-to-clean seat pad for comfort and great support. The bottom of the seat actually adjusts with a tether to make the seat deeper and lower to the ground for smaller babies, and more shallow and higher for larger kiddos. With the seat all of the way lowered, it allows Ezra to bear weight on his feet while still really supporting his upper back- which is completely different from many walkers I’ve seen before. The bottom of the walker has independently rotating front wheels to make moving around easier, and special non-skid friction pads to keep it from moving too quickly and slipping out from under baby when it’s a walk-behind walker. It also folds up compactly in about 15 seconds (slim enough to fit under the bed, in the closet, behind the open door…).

The Tiny Steps Walker also came out of the box almost ready to go. Set up took a whole 2 minutes and was incredibly simple. I just had to add batteries, snap in the activity center, and unfold!

Now that I’ve told you why the Kolcraft Tiny Steps Walker is pretty awesome, I just wanted to include a bit about walker safety… First, baby should not be placed in the walker until they are 15 lbs and able to support body weight with their legs. Also, baby shouldn’t be placed in the walker for too long at a time for hip safety. Once baby has lost interest in the toys, remove him or her and move on to a different activity. And lastly, remember that baby is able to do much more when in a walker. NEVER use a walker in a home where there are stairs leading downward (even with a baby gate), and remember that baby will be able to reach objects that are not normally reachable (including things like hot ovens, stoves, etc).

With safety in mind, the Kolcraft Tiny Steps 2-in-1 Walker is a wonderful walker for those littles that aren’t quite ready for walking on their own, but are craving more independence. And with Christmas just around the corner, it makes a great present for that babe who’s ready to start exploring. If you’d love to have one under your tree this year, visit Kolcraft to grab one of your own!
