The worst thing about winter is being cooped up inside. During the summer I constantly have the kids outside playing in the neighborhood, visiting local playgrounds, splashing in swimming pools. It had gotten to the point that we were all in need of an escape from the confines of our home to splash about and have some fun. I’m a huge fan of indoor water parks, but in most cases they are just too big and overwhelming for our family with three kiddos five and under. However, there is one hotel within an hour or so drive from our home that has the perfect size water park for our family.
That hotel is the Comfort Inn Splash Harbor in Bellville, Ohio.
This was actually our second visit to Splash Harbor. Last year we visited on a weekday and practically had the place to ourselves. This year we visited on a weekend which also happened to be a holiday weekend and the place was hopping. The evening we arrived it took a little while to check-in because there was quite a line, but the front desk clerks were handling the influx of guests very well. I will say that evening the pool area was rather overwhelming with guests filling nearly every bit of the 6,000 square foot indoor water park, but the next morning things had calmed down significantly.
So what can you find at Splash Harbor? So much!
When you walk into the main doors of the water park you will see the kiddie pool with a depth of 6 to 14 inches. All three of my girls liked splashing about in this area, but it was definitely the perfect depth for Willow who was really experiencing Splash Harbor for the first time since she was so itty bitty last year.
The kiddie pool has an entrance into the large pool which has a depth of 3 to 4.5 feet. The large pool also has lots of fun activities like basketball hoops, a floating raft, and a water slide. The water slide was by far Alleigh’s favorite feature – she couldn’t get enough and it wore her right out which made for a very quiet ride home that evening. Every parent knows that is worth every penny, hehe.
Right next to the large pool is a family hot tub which could be more accurately described as a big warm bath tub with bench seating and jets. It was definitely a perfect place to relax with the kiddos. Of course relaxing doesn’t last long with little ones and Willow wasn’t one to sit still very long.
Her absolute favorite part of Splash Harbor was the sprayground. She loved running through the spraying geysers and standing under the dumping buckets with her daddy. The water was actually warm in the sprayground which was really nice because from my experience in other water parks the water in the spray areas usually feels ice cold.
There is also an adult hot tub for guests 18 and over that is super hot. I sat in it for a few minutes and would have loved to relax longer, but of course with three little ones that just isn’t going to happen.
We absolutely love Splash Harbor since it perfectly fits with the size and ages of our kiddos. I definitely plan to make a visit a yearly winter activity for our family.
In fact our girls have already started asking when we will be visiting again. If you live anywhere remotely close to Bellville, Ohio I highly suggest checking it out. You are sure to have a blast. And guess what? One of my lucky readers is going to experience Splash Harbor with their family (2 adults & 2 children) during a one night stay in a standard queen room – some restrictions will apply.
