I shopped savvy using Walmart Saving Catcher, as part of a sponsored post for Crowdtap #WMTSavingsCatcher.

Saving money is a huge priority for me which is why I have been attempting to save as much money as possible when grocery shopping.  When couponing really took off I tried my best at clipping as many as I could and organizing them in a binder.  This way I could then look at ads and figure out the best place to use them.  It seemed the only way to reach maximum savings was to shop at lots of different places.  To buy milk at one grocery store, paper products at another, and so on.  But ya know it just didn’t make sense to me that to save money I needed to drive all over the place using extra gas and dragging my kids in one store after another.  The time and effort truly just wasn’t worth it.  But then Walmart released an app that completely eliminates the need to run around to tons of store like a crazy person.

I’ve personally been using the Walmart Savings Catcher app since August 2014 and have already caught $17.41 in savings – how awesome is that?  Plus it’s so simple as you will see.

To make this process as simple as possible I highly recommend downloading the Walmart app to your smart phone.  If you don’t have a smart phone you can still participate by logging in to your Walmart account from a computer and entering your receipts that way.  Each time I visit Walmart I slip my receipt in my pocket after checking out and once I have the car loaded up with my purchases and kids I scan the receipt before ever leaving the parking lot.  This ensures I don’t forget to scan any receipts because each receipt must be scanned within 7 days of purchase.  Once the receipt has been submitted you will see a rolling list of competitors showing where your purchases will be compared to the advertised prices found in the print and online versions of the weekly ads of top retailers in your area. The ads must be valid at the time you made your Walmart purchase.  I was super stoked to see that even places like Family Dollar and Marcs were included!

Once the receipt is submitted you can also view your eReceipt details which will list the date, store, number of items purchased, total amount spent, and a detailed list of each item.  Up to 7 receipts a week can be entered you will see the “Now comparing prices” which can take up to 72 hours.

Once the results are ready Walmart will either send you an e-mail or notify you through the smart phone app.  I always get a bit excited when it alerts me that a lower price has been found in anticipation of seeing how much I’ll be getting back.  On some receipts I’ve received a little under a $1 in savings, but my best savings catch by far happened last week when I received $6.34 back!  Not only will you see how many lower prices and the amount you received back, but you can also look at the receipt in detail to see exactly how much you saved on each item and from what competitor too.

From the smart phone app you can then view your reward dollars by tapping the button on the home screen.  There are two different ways to redeem your reward dollars.  You can redeem them to an eGift Card that can be used both in store and online.  A message will be sent to the e-mail address that is connected to your Walmart account with the loaded eGift card – all reward dollars will be added to the same card which keeps things really simple.  You can also choose to redeem your reward dollars to a Bluebird card if you are or choose to become a Bluebird by American Express Card Member.  There is definitely an added perk to redeeming this way because now through February 28th 2015 these reward dollars will be doubled.  Which means instead of $6.34 I could have received $12.68 back!

I love how simple Walmart has made it for me to get the best price possible without having to run around to a ton of different stores just by scanning my receipts.  Plus you have the option of letting your rewards pile up to use on a big purchase (up to $599.99 per calendar year) – perhaps Christmas?  Or you could be like me and use them on your next shopping trip regardless to knock a few bucks off here and there.  The choice is yours.

Oh and one more thing for you coupon lovers – you can use Savings Catcher and coupons together for maximum savings.  If you use a coupon, Savings Catcher will compare the original Walmart price of the item, before the coupon was applied, to other stores’ advertised prices for the same item. For example: You bought cookies at Walmart. The shelf price was $3 and you used a coupon for $0.25, so you paid $2.75. If Savings Catcher finds that a competitor advertised those same cookies for $2.00, Savings Catcher will still credit you $1.00, even though you paid only $2.75 at Walmart.  Doesn’t get much better than that, does it!

Make sure you download the Walmart Savings Catcher app as soon as possible and start getting those reward dollars back.  It takes literally seconds and is to simple not to do.  Plus once you try it out and share the buzz be sure to enter this awesome giveaway. By spreading the word you’ll be entered to win a $2000 shopping spree at Walmart and so will your friends!

  1. I really do need to sign up for this, I had not known how easy it is to use, I thought I would have to pull my phone out in store to find out if there were savings, much easier than anticipated! Thank you for the post!

You nailed it from the start for me. I won’t drive from store to store to get the best price, just because it’s a pain for the kids. I love that this makes it so you don’t have to worry about such things.

I use the app but I’ve not save a whole lot yet. But I like that I keeps your recipes, because I’m bad about saving them and not having them if I need to make a return.

  4. I would definitely give this a try, thank you for sharing. Money saving is also my cup of tea since I don’t work outside home and that’s the only thing I can help to our finances.

  5. My husband works for Walmart and he is constantly raving about this app, haha. I have it on my phone but haven’t used it yet!

I don’t have the app since I would for sure forget about it then, but I do have it bookmarked on my favorites bar on the computer. Even though I have to manually enter it (& spend a whole 2 seconds of my life), at least I don’t forget about it. I’m up to $2.57 so far! I think our local Walmart is pretty good about price matching when they should, LOL.
