The VTech product, information, and giveaway have been provided by VTech.

With Christmas right around the corner many of us are headed to the toy store in search of gifts for all the kiddos on our shopping lists.  I have four of my own to shop for ranging in age from newborn to six years old and a few nieces and nephews as well.  This task can be rather daunting with so many products to choose from especially since it is important to make sure the toy is not only age appropriate, but also meets the needs of the individual child for which you are shopping.  Wouldn’t it be so much easier if there was a manual that simply told you what toy would work best?  Well lucky for us VTech thought a manual… well a developmental milestone resource… would be much easier too!

At VTech they realize that our little ones are constantly growing, discovering and developing which is why it’s important to have toys and games that help them learn every step of the way.  For this reason VTech works closely with a panel of children’s learning experts on the development of its infant and preschool learning products. Insight from these experts are featured in an online Milestones resource that offers parents guidelines and recommendations to help them select toys based on the individual needs of children from birth to nine years old. The milestones are broken down by age and three categories which include Language & Cognitive, Physical & Motor, as well as Social & Emotional.  For example this is what you would see when selecting the 0-6 month age range.

These categories explain different characteristics and occurrences that your child is faced with at each specific age and developmental stage, and are then followed by recommended products that are the most appropriate and beneficial.

VTech was super generous and sent my younger girls three toys that are perfect for ages birth to 36 months including the Lil’ Critters Play & Dream Musical Piano™ (birth-12 months) and Roll & Surprise Animal Train™ (6-36 months) which I am sure Lilah will love in a few months.  As soon as I saw the Chomp & Count Dino™ (12-36 months) I knew my little dinosaur addict, Willow, would be thrilled.

And as you can see I was definitely right… she couldn’t wait to get it out of the packaging!

Willow is beginning to talk a lot more lately and is showing in interest in learning colors, shapes, and numbers so the Chomp & Count Dino is perfect for her.  There are lots of ways to learn and play with this toy which has definitely kept my little two year old entertained.  Each of the eight brightly-colored play pieces can be placed in the dino’s mouth so he eats and recognizes each piece.  This can be done in either food or counting mode and the dino will respond with rewarding sounds and phrases all while introducing colors, numbers, shapes and more.  Little ones can also press the question button then answer the dino’s questions to show what they’ve learned.  There are also five shape buttons to help kids learn shapes and numbers, while spinning the disc on the dino’s back will play sing-along songs.  Plus for even more fun the dino can also be pushed or pulled by a string for more songs.  All of these activities combined give a total of over 130 songs, melodies, sounds, and phrases which are sure to keep your munchkin occupied for a very long time!

The next time you are shopping for toys I highly suggest visiting the VTech website and checking out the great information on the Expert Panel page and Milestones page to help in making your choice.  Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter too.  VTech offers so many awesome toys for birth through nine years of age that you are sure to find the perfect gift there this holiday season.  And one lucky Happenings of the Harper Household reader is going to win some of those great toys as well.  Enter the giveaway below for your chance to win the three toys featured in my post.  Good luck!
