As I sit here typing away even more snow is falling from the sky and I’m dreading going to pick Alleigh up from school because that means I have to take the other three little ones out into the frigid cold. Yet just a few weeks ago I was relaxing on a lounge chair at the side of a tide pool surrounded by palm trees in a perfectly comfortable 82° paradise. And I want to go back so badly. The good news is it’s very possible to visit again while the winter keeps dragging on because it’s not a very far drive… in fact I never even left Ohio. I know what you’re thinking – palm trees and 82° weather in Ohio?
The answer is simple – Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort in Sandusky, Ohio.
Now as much as I loved escaping the cold Ohio snowy weather I am always hesitant about hotel stays with the kiddos. At home 8 – 8:30PM is always bed time because after that at least one of the four is bound to have a major melt down. And so hotel rooms where everyone is in the same space basically kills my sanity because I am definitely not ready to fall asleep at 8PM.
Luckily Castaway Bay has this problem solved with many suites and family-oriented units like the Tarpon suite we had the pleasure of experiencing. Upon walking in Alleigh, Kaelyn, and Willow squealed with delight when they discovered two sets of bunk beds in a separate bedroom with their own flat screen television, and table with stools. I immediately knew getting all my munchkins to sleep that evening was going to be so much easier since they would each have their own bed just like at home. As for me, I was most excited to see a king sized bed which was crazy comfy, double sinks in the bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, and huge walk-in closet. The Tarpon suite was absolute perfection for our family of six. The kids were to bed at a reasonable time and I kept my sanity – a win-win!
The next morning everyone was well rested and ready to get a start on the day. We headed down to Mango Mike’s for a delicious breakfast buffet which included fresh fruit, freshly-baked pastries, scrambled eggs, cold cereals, hash browns, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy along with other breakfast favorites. We enjoyed a lovely view of the frozen over bay while filling our bellies for a morning full of fun. Once we were finished eating we headed to the indoor water park!
Castaway Bay Indoor Water Park is perfect for families of all ages because of their wide variety of water activities. From a relaxing indoor/outdoor 50 person whirlpool spa to a rousing 520 foot long water roller coaster and everything in between there is sure to be something to please every person in your group. Over the past few years I have shared some in depth posts about different features of the water park including the Toddler’s Tide Pool, Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse, and Wave Pool. Throughout those years my girls have pretty much preferred to stay in the Toddler’s Tide Pool the entire time. We would have to beg and plead with them to try other activities in the waterpark.
But this year was a whole different story. My girls were all over the place and being so much more adventurous then ever before. Alleigh was swinging like a monkey across the Cargo Crossing, zooming down the Rendezvous Run, and whizzing down all of the water slides in Lookout Lagoon. Kaelyn and Willow were loving all of the spray features and splashing about in the wave pool. They had a blast!
