This week the temperature reached 50° and I’m beginning to believe that spring might actually be on the way.  The girls loved riding their bikes up and down the street and the older neighborhood kids could be found shooting hoops at the end of the block.  As I watched them play I began to sense a little madness in the air.  No matter what part of the country you’re in I bet you felt it too.  And with that madness comes a big basketball championship that will have my husband glued to the television all month long.  And so to kick off this marathon of basketball games I thought it would be fun to throw together a little bracket party.  I’m totally gonna win this year!

 Basketball Party Ideas

I decided to whip up a few basketball inspired finger foods starting with Ritz Crackers topped with trail bologna and cheddar cheese cut into circles – a cookie cutter made this a breeze.  I then drew lines to resemble a basketball on the cheese using a black Wilton FoodWriter Edible Color Marker.  A ceramic basketball dish filled with spinach dip was perfect for snacking on Original Wheat Thins.

Of course I couldn’t ignore my sweet tooth and so some simple OREO Cookies transformed into delicious basketballs too.  I made these by dipping one side of the OREO Cookie into orange Wilton Candy Melts then placing in the fridge on a cookie sheet to harden.  Once they hardened I again used the black Wilton FoodWriter Edible Color Marker to add the basketball lines.  These were so yummy – I had a heck of a time keeping Willow out of them!  Plus you just can’t go wrong with Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter Cups!

After enjoying all those delicious finger foods and sweets an ice cold beverage was absolutely necessary.  A simple ice bucket wouldn’t do for our basketball party.  And so I grabbed the kiddos over-the-door mini hoop and created a Slam Dunk Ice Bucket.  It kept our mini cans and 1/2 liter bottles of Coke, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero perfectly chilled while doubling as party decor at the same time.

If you have a basketball fan in your house that is excited about the upcoming tournament these snacks would make a perfect addition to a game night or a fun bracket party.  Or perhaps even a basketball themed birthday party.  You can find everything you’ll need at Giant Eagle.

And on those evenings that you just want to kick back and relax to watch the game without going the extra mile putting together fancy snacks make sure you pick up a bag of Reese’s Minis.  Their already unwrapped so all you have to do is enjoy.  Plus the bag is resealable… if there happens to be any left, hehe.
