I’ve been a mom for 5 years now, and a cloth-diapering mom for almost just as long. So not only have I relied heavily on my washing machine to wash my clothes for my family of 5, but I also rely on it twice a week for diaper laundry. With all of the time my washer and I have spent together, it’s pretty safe to say that we have become quite close in recent years. With that, I’ve also learned that there’s some interesting guidelines, tips, and helpful facts that help me clean my clothes, and especially
my their cloth diapers, better. Aside from my choice of detergent, I learned right away that keeping my machine clean and free of funky smells is the first step to amazing looking and smelling laundry. (Let’s be honest here. I love clean laundry, but all I really care about it that the diapers come out perfect every time. Don’t ask why. It’s an AppleCheeks thing!) In fact, in a few of my online mom cloth diapering groups, I have seen some beautiful diapers and clothes come out ruined from a poorly-maintained and dirty washer. So when I was asked to try out OxiClean Washing Machine Cleaner, I was definitely up to the #OxiClean challenge!
I’ve been familiar with OxiClean in the past, and from time to time, I use OxiClean on my carpet and really messy diapers. It works well every time I use it, and I can always expect it to brighten and remove stains from my laundry. I knew if it worked this well on my clothes, it would surely help me out with my machine itself. Plus, I noticed that I have to be very careful with my front-load HE washer. If I do laundry and leave the door shut, I very easily develop mold and a really stinky smell in the rubber gasket near the drain and the door. However, leaving the door open with my children around also terrifies me, so I’ve been left to cleaning my machine by hand, and it’s just not cutting it anymore!
When I opened the box of OxiClean Washing Machine Cleaner, I noticed a few things right away. First, there was the Odor Blasters, which gave me hope of ridding my washer of the stink. Second, it was safe for all machines, whether HE or regular. And third, 4 packets came in one box. I learned that although it may take a few packets to get my machine up to par the first time I use it, just a once-a-month treatment from here on out will keep my machine in great, clean, and fresh-smelling condition. You simply pour a packet of OxiClean Washing Machine Cleaner right into the empty drum, run it through a cycle, and then wipe clean with a dry towel.
While easy enough, we all sat fascinated as the machine bubbled and cleaned, and we waited around until the timer played to see how much of a difference one packet would make. After wiping down the leftover water, I feel like the OxiClean was totally spot on! The drum looked really shiny and new again, the rubber gasket was free from the gross mildew, and my machine smelled fresh instead of damp and stinky. Even the little holes that I never even realized had buildup were unclogged, and the mineral deposits on the sides were so much better. I was completely impressed!
If you use your machine a little or a lot, especially if you do some heavy duty cleaning like cloth diapers, I would definitely recommend OxiClean Washing Machine Cleaner. You can follow them on Facebook, and I also have a $1 off coupon to share with you, just by clicking here! Happy washing!
