Over the last year or so, our family has made a commitment to spend time together. Although that sounds pretty basic, in today’s world it’s a little bit harder than most would think. With school schedules, sports, outside activities, and opposite work schedules between my husband and I, we have found that we do have to be intentional in finding time to just be together. Plus, we’re always on the lookout for fun, new, and cost-effective activities. One of our favorite cost effective and easy activities is family movie night… and lucky for us, we had the perfect chance to pre-screen the brand new “Maya the Bee Movie” DVD this week!
In the warmer months, family movie night often entails a trip to the drive-in, and in the winter, we do a lot of popcorn and movie-night-ins. But this time, the boys asked for something different (and it was a school night), so we did a Dinner-and-A-Movie for them. We fixed a yummy meal of fajita baked potatoes and corn, set them a table by the screen, and had a fun Dinner-and-A-Movie with “Maya the Bee Movie!”
“Maya the Bee Movie” is a funny, family-friendly animated film all about a spunky, independent, adventurous bee named Maya, and is based on the well-known German children’s novel by Waldemar Bonsels, The Adventures of Maya the Bee, published in 1912. Since then, it has been translated into many different languages, and has been enjoyed as a comic book series, animated series, and now a major animated feature film. It even features an all-star voice cast of Coco Jack Gillies, Academy Award Nominee Jacki Weaver, Miriam Margolyes, Richard Roxburgh, Noah Taylor, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Justine Clark.
Set to release on 2 Disk Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack and DVD from Shout! Factory Kids on May 19, 2015, “Maya the Bee Movie” is a perfect addition to any family friendly movie collection. Throughout the movie, Maya, the spunky main character, sets out for an exciting life of freedom, fun, adventure, and self-discovery outside her hive. While the rest of the bees are scared of anything different, Maya questions everything, leading her to trouble with the Queen’s Royal Advisor, Buzzlina. But her assurance in herself and trust in her own instincts allow Maya to help solve the mystery of the Queen’s stolen Royal Jelly.
With such an awesome message of beauty in uniqueness and trusting oneself (plus, the movie is truly very funny!), our whole family was impressed with “Maya the Bee Movie.” Even my husband and I stayed glued to the TV, and the run time of 79 minutes was perfect for a kid-friendly movie. Be sure to grab your copy of the “Maya the Bee Movie” DVD or Blu-Ray available in stores everywhere on May 19 for a night full of family fun, comedy, adventure, and a lesson in self discovery!
