Are you ready to hear about some more fun things to do in Ohio?
This post is going to take us to Toledo which is in northwest Ohio, on the western end of Lake Erie, and borders the state of Michigan. If you’re more of a visual person this map should help.
Three things you must do if you ever find yourself in Toledo, Ohio…
1.) Visit the National Museum of the Great Lakes. Here you will learn the history of the Great Lakes which make up 84 percent of the fresh surface water in North America. There are more than 250 Great Lakes artifacts to view including a life raft recovered from the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Experience more than 40 hands-on exhibits where you can even maneuver your very own simulated submersible through the wreckage of a lost freighter. Take a tour of the S.S. Col. James M. Schoonmaker which was the the largest ship operating on the Great Lakes until April 14, 1914. Finish up with a stroll through a 3.5 acre park with maritime artifacts and beautiful landscaping along the bank of the Maumee River.
2.) Go wild at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium which has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s top ranked zoos. With more than 750 exotic species from all over the world the Toledo Zoo is considered one of the world’s most complete zoos. In one day you will experience animals from the Arctic tundra to the wilds of Africa, from the tropical rainforest to the Sonoran Desert and all points between. If you have a favorite animal chances are you will find it at the Toledo Zoo! Plus after two and a half years of renovation the aquarium is now open and home to 3000+ aquatic animals in 178,000 gallons of water.
3.) Grab a bite at The Real Seafood Company – a contemporary seafood restaurant that offers premium fresh fish and seafood from the waters of New England to the Great Lakes and to the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy fresh oysters, lobster, shrimp, and the authentic flavors of seasonal and local produce. Open for lunch/dinner daily with outdoor patio seating that offers a beautiful view of the Maumee River. I highly recommend the Lake Erie Perch.
Have you ever been to Toledo? Are there any other must-see or must-do activities I should check out next time?
Sounds like a fun city for kids. My boys would love that zoo!
I have never been to Toledo but man, the zoo looks amazing! I’m hoping to travel more with the kids now that they are older and this definitely sounds like a place I need to visit!
Sounds like many fun things to do. I would love to visit the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium with kids.
I’m so glad you shared this. I’ve never thought about visiting Toldedo to be honest with you. I had no idea there was so much to do there.
Ohio is a state I haven’t had the chance to visit yet, but I will and I’ll have to do all 3 of these activities.
The Toledo Zoo looks like a great place to take the family. All of these would be great activities for this summer.
I have never visited the state, but it’s close enought to make a road trip. I’d love to visit the zoo with my kids.
You’re a real deep thikenr. Thanks for sharing.
As a head teacher I was always aware of the bullying that went on but sadly folk do not always learn the lessons like you did.** See what Julia has been up to…
WOW what spin and hype. Delivered with such sincerity, as if Arny was, well, an actor or something. Using a loaded term, “bubble”, as if this is just another bad business deal instead of Government incompetence is outrageous. Frightening everyone that they will have to cover these taxes in the future is also typical, as if you haven’t paid these taxes once already. You did. Just like Social Security. The State money has been misspent. If you have to pay it again, be angry. Be very, very angry.

I have never been to Ohio before, but it looks like a great place to visit! I do hope some day to start taking my kids to experience other states, this looks like one I should add to our list 🙂
What a great little guide! I’ve never been to, just through, Ohio! But I would love to visit!
Oh my daughter lives around that area. I’d love to stop at the museum with her when I visit.
We lived in Cleveland for a long time and they have a lot of great museums. I would like to visit the zoo and aquarium.
I have no idea that Toledo Ohio had so much to do. My kids would love to visit all those places.
My kids would love to visit the zoo! The museum would be a great place to visit as well!
What a sun set of activities! Sounds like you had a good time!
I have never been to Toledo before. It looks like a great place to go visit.
Toledo looks like a fun vacation spot. I would love to go to the Toledo Zoo with the kids.
I’ve been through Toledo a number of times, being from Michigan, but I’ve never stopped there. The Great Lakes Museum looks awesome though, I’m inordinately proud of our freshwater seas.
I’ve never been to Toledo but these places look interesting.
