3 Ways To Make Spring Cleaning Fun

The sun is shining longer each day.  I’ve been waking to the sound of chipper birds each morning.  Buds are beginning to burst on the trees.  Gentle breezes have been blowing through our front screen door.  And our home is in dire need of a deep spring cleaning.  I’ll be the first to admit that cleaning house ranks around the same place as doing sit-ups or going to the dentist for me.  I would literally rather be doing anything else.  Especially when it comes to the bathroom.  And if I am going to be 100% honest I have to admit that I normally push bathroom cleaning to my hubby.  But I decided it was my turn to tackle it for spring cleaning.  I tried to make the process as fun as cleaning a bathroom can possibly be in hopes that I won’t dread it as much in the future.  Maybe some of these suggestions will encourage you to tackle spring cleaning with a smile on your face too.

Colorful Cleaning Supplies.  While walking down the cleaning supply aisles at Walmart I couldn’t help but notice all of the bright colors.  Why should cleaning be boring?  Bright colors can spice anything up.  And so I decided that if I was going to tackle the bathroom it was going to happen with fun vibrant colors.  I grabbed a purple bucket, pink gloves, blue gloves, and a pack of microfiber cloths.  As a kid I remember being so excited to go back to school just to use all of my new school supplies.  That same feeling came over me about getting to use fun new cleaning supplies.

Music.  Everything is more fun when you add music.  So how about some fun jams to get you motivated.  Run The World by Beyonce gives me an extra boost of energy and power to conquer the tough scrubbing.  And Roses by OutKast is a necessity when cleaning the toilet.  If anything it’ll make you laugh, I guarantee it!

Treat Yourself.  When you have completely spring cleaned a room from top to bottom treat yourself to something new.  This doesn’t have to be anything crazy expensive.  Our shower curtain had seen better days – it was a bridal shower gift nearly 10 years ago!  And so while picking up cleaning supplies at Walmart I decided to check out their selection.  I found this gorgeous shower curtain for around $17.  Once home I refused to let myself hang it until I had completely cleaned the bathroom which helped motivate me to get the job done.  For the kitchen it might be something as simple as a new set of decorative salt and pepper shakers or maybe a candle for the living room.

Once the deep spring cleaning is accomplished the only way to keep things from going south quickly is daily maintenance.  With six people in our home all sharing one bathroom this is super important.  Be sure to grab some Viva® paper towels while at Walmart.  I absolutely love these paper towels because they are soft and strong – just like cloth.  One paper towel is all you need to wipe down the mirrors and counter tops to keep the bathroom sparkling from day to day.

Don’t forget to stock up on Cottonelle® toilet paper while you’re at it.  It’s amazing the amount of toilet paper a larger sized family goes through – especially one with all girls.  I prefer Cottonelle® because the CleanRipple Texture means we don’t need to use nearly as much to get our bums clean.

Check out Walmart to save money on all of your favorite paper essentials including Cottonelle®, Kleenex®, Scott®, and Viva® while stocking up for spring.  Do you have any tips for making spring cleaning more fun and less of a chore?  I’d love to hear them!

  2. Our spring cleaning has begun and we started in the pantry. I have been giving myself rewards based on each job. I can’t have that new dress, until I get that whole room complete, or if we all work together on this family room then we can go out for ice cream as a family. It’s been working like a charm. 🙂
