A few weeks ago my sister, the girls, and I had the pleasure of attending a media trip to explore Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  As a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan I have visited the city a few times to cheer on my team during games.  From those visits I knew that Pittsburgh is an absolutely gorgeous city.  The rivers that surround the city and bridges that span over the water are simply breathtaking.  I could spend an entire day just driving around and taking in the gorgeous architecture.  And even in the middle of a huge bustling city you will still find so much green space filled with beautiful fountains and stunning works of art.  But you don’t have to take my word for it because Pittsburgh was recently named one of the “Best Places to Travel in 2016” by Travel + Leisure!

What I didn’t know is that Pittsburgh is a totally kid friendly city.  During our three days exploring Pittsburgh I was amazed over and over again by how many fun activities the city has to offer families.  My girls and I had an absolute blast and I am so excited to share all of the fun things we experienced from delicious restaurants to museums, amusement parks, and city tours.

Before I dive into all those fun activities I want to share where we rested our heads each evening – Homewood Suites by Hilton Downtown Pittsburgh which is located trendy Strip District neighborhood.

Upon first pulling up the hotel we were greeted by the valet parking attendants who helped to unload our vehicle and show us the way to the main lobby.  My first thoughts were that this was an absolutely beautiful hotel and I was a tad afraid to let my kiddos loose, but I soon came to discover that Homewood Suites is very child friendly.

After checking in we made our way to our suite.  It consisted of two full size bedrooms – one with two queen size beds and the other with one king size bed.  Each bedroom had a huge flat screen television and a full size bathroom – one with a tub/shower combo and the other with a walk in shower.  In addition to the two bedrooms there was also a separate living area complete with a full size sofa bed, side chair, coffee table, and television.

Immediately off of the living area was a fully equipped kitchen with full size refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, twin burner stove, toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and utensils.

After a long day exploring the city it was nice to come back to our suite and have so much space to spread out.  The older girls shared the bedroom with two queen beds, my sister crashed on the sleeper sofa, while Lilah and I enjoyed the king size bed.

Homewood Suites also has some other great guest perks including a complimentary hot full breakfast each morning.  There were so many yummy foods it was hard to make a choice.  Waffles, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, cereal, fruit, muffins, coffee, juice, milk, and so much more.

But what I think my girls enjoyed the most was the indoor heated pool.  Even after a long day exploring the city they somehow found the energy to jump in and splash around.  I wish I had just a tenth of the energy my kids have , hehe.

One evening when we returned to our hotel room the girls were surprised with a selection of Lewis the Duck books.  Lewis is the Homewood Suites mascot & is a universal symbol of versatility & adaptability.  The next time you visit a Homewood Suites be sure to pick up some of these books in the 24-hour convenience shop.  They make awesome bed time stories!

If you find yourself in Pittsburgh looking for a place to stay I can not say enough good things about Homewood Suites by Hilton Pittsburgh Downtown.  They have absolutely everything you will need to help you feel at home while enjoying one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Be sure to check back over the next few days as I share all of the fun activities we experienced while exploring Pittsburgh!
