I never imagined when we first discussed having a big family that it would be a family of four boys. Of course I now couldn’t imagine life any other way, but oh my, the adventures these boys can dream up and get into! They seem to love any toy that they can pretend play with, but the more bells, whistles, and gadgets to explore, the better the toy fits them. We love VTech’s Go! Go! Smart Wheels line, and we recently had the opportunity to try out the new Go! Go! Smart Wheels® Treasure Mountain Train Adventure™, and it certainly fit their expectations for a toy that could entertain.
Ever since it arrived a few days before, the boys had been eyeing the Go! Go! Smart Wheels® Treasure Mountain Train Adventure™ and begging to open it. So we cleared the floor, opened all of the pieces, and got to creating some fun! Now I have to be honest, there really are A LOT of pieces to this track, and you need a pretty big space to be really creative, but our playroom was the perfect space. It took about 20 minutes to get all of the stickers on and the first track setup complete, but from that point on, they pretty much needed no assistance from me to start having train adventures.
Aside from the track, the set also includes a motorized train, pull cart, crane, mine and mine hammer, and 3 differently shaped “rocks”. They each had an area that they really loved to play in. Reese loved picking up the rocks with the crane and dropping them into the train as it passed by. Ezra has been really focusing on shapes and colors, so he loved taking the three differently shaped rocks and putting them into the correct hole in the side of the mountain. Once in the mountain, they funneled into a waiting area where a lever triggered the release of the rocks into the pull cart as the train went by. In addition to the shape sorter and crane, there was also a mine area with a hammer to push the rocks through, and multiple SmartPoints.
The train comes with two modes- a motor mode so the train will go around the track and up the hills on its own, and a manual mode where they can push the train around the track. The train responds to multiple SmartPoints throughout the track in each mode by playing music, lighting up, and making sounds. Some of the pieces needed some adult help to snap together, but after that, they made a few different track configurations on their own and changed around the different SmartPoints. Since they really liked moving the rocks around as the train passed through, they mostly kept it on motor mode and made a mining factory out of it.
Go! Go! Smart Wheels® Treasure Mountain Train Adventure™ retails for $54.99 and is geared toward ages 1-5 (my 3 and almost 5 year old were the perfect ages!). It’s definitely a great toy to keep their imagination and their hands active without the need for me to constantly assist them. Plus, it connects to our other Go! Go! Smart Wheels sets that we have, so they can really mix and match. It’s the perfect toy set for a rainy day adventure that all of our boys can play with at once!
