While the weather has been really quite mild in Central Indiana this winter, the dry air has really made an impact in our house. We learned that while our new heat pump is super efficient in weather like this, it just really dries out the air. We’ve all seemed to battle dry skin this winter, and I’ve definitely noticed that the house has been super staticky. To combat this, we’ve always used humidifiers in our kids rooms, especially during the cold season. However, with our bigger house, we needed to think a bit larger in terms of how to humidify the areas we spend the most time in, like our living/kitchen area. This year we’ve been able to test out the Honeywell Removable Top Fill Cool Mist Humidifier. Built for medium to large size rooms, it was perfect for our open concept living room/kitchen combo. With our TV and bin of blankets in there, it often turns into the snuggle area, but this year it’s also turned into our snuggle and get-shocked-by-the-static area!
Right out of the box, the Honeywell Humidifier just had a single piece to install and it was ready to go. Since we have super hard well water, we choose to fill our humidifiers with filtered water, but I was really pleased to see that they also included an optional filter that can be used with high-mineral-content water. However, I loved that it was ok to use without the filter, since we use filtered water anyway. It will definitely save us money since we use our humidifiers regularly.
What I think makes the Honeywell Humidifier really unique though, is how easy it is to fill. Because the opening where you fill the tank sits on top and is wide, it’s convenient to just fill the tank wherever the humidifier is sitting. However, you can also remove the tank and take it over to the faucet to fill (and it also makes it really easy to clean the tank too). It has a pretty large fill capacity (1.25 gallons) and has an automatic shut off when empty, so I know I can fill it to the top and let it run all day without it running dry (in fact, you can run it for almost 36 hours on a full tank!).
It was really simple to operate once full- simply turn the dial on the front depending on how much moisture you need to add to the air, and let it go. On the top where the cool mist is expelled is a rotating nozzle, so it was easy to turn it toward the middle of the room and away from the wall. Plus, the ultrasonic technology that produces the cool mist is super quiet- we can’t even tell when it’s running except for seeing the mist. And because it’s a cool mist, I know it’s safe around my kiddos too.
