Almost half way through his second grade year, my oldest, Aiden, has definitely found his favorite subject- science. He’s also realized that he has a natural talent for sports and loves to play and watch them all. So this Christmas, we were really excited to find out about a unique STEM toy to put under the tree that involves everything he loves into one. We were able to try out one of the fantastic kits from Little Medical School– the My Little Sports Medicine Kit. Packaged in its unique box- a medical satchel- the My Little Sports Medicine Kit was … …..
This Christmas, we’ve decided to really focus on STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math) gifts rather than toys with lots of lights, sounds, and batteries. We’ve realized that almost all of the toys that our kids tend to play with over and over are STREAM toys anyway, and right now, some of their very favorites are building block and snap together sets. After building one thing, they pass it on to the next brother, combine some different sets, and create something completely different. It’s the perfect way to keep their minds and hands busy without the need for … …..
This post and giveaway is sponsored by Blendy Pens. However, all thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and completely my own. School is in full swing already, and it’s hard to believe, but I’m already gearing up for the holidays. I’ve been hiding and stashing little gifts for Christmas here and there, grabbing things of interest as I go. While some of my kids are hard to buy for, Reese, my second child, is probably one of the easiest. I know any gift will always be a big hit if it allows him to draw or use his creativity, which … …..
Messes are inevitable when you have four children between the ages of one and seven. And as much as I try really hard to avoid it, clutter is pretty much inevitable most of the time as well. We have tons of storage bins, boxes, and shelves, but I still find that clutter happens when all of those things are taken down to play. I mean, sure, playing legos sounds innocent enough… until I rudely realize at 6 am that they were never gathered back up and put away into those bins, and it’s currently lodged in the sole of my … …..
Spring is finally showing up here in Indiana and the weather has been awesome for a couple days now. My boys have had a blast playing outside after being cooped up all winter, so slowly and surely, the toys have all started to trickle outside as well. One of their favorite toys to play with not only inside, but now outside as well, has been the MiO Eating + 2 People set I reviewed a few months ago from the Manhattan Toy Company. Made as multiple modular sets, each one is made from wood, gender neutral, and really awesome for … …..
While the weather has been really quite mild in Central Indiana this winter, the dry air has really made an impact in our house. We learned that while our new heat pump is super efficient in weather like this, it just really dries out the air. We’ve all seemed to battle dry skin this winter, and I’ve definitely noticed that the house has been super staticky. To combat this, we’ve always used humidifiers in our kids rooms, especially during the cold season. However, with our bigger house, we needed to think a bit larger in terms of how to humidify … …..
While I try to keep our house pretty organized, I’ll admit that there are definitely days you can’t walk through the house without tripping over strewn about toys, legos, or books. With four boys, the toy clutter can definitely overwhelm me and my floor from time to time. We’ve implemented some good organizing tools to help cut down on the chaos, including bins on cubicle shelving, an art organizing cabinet, and a no toys in the bedroom rule. One company, Oribel, has also continued the idea of removing clutter from the floor with their new line of toys, Vertiplay. Designed … …..
Every year it seems like we need to do a big toy sweep in the weeks leading up to Christmas to make room for the new toys that will brought home after holidays with the family. While there is a place and time for the exciting new electronic toys and building sets with billions of tiny pieces, there’s a special spot in my heart for the simple, imaginative toys that have very few parts and can last for years. This holiday season, Manhattan Toy (whom we LOVE!) has created a special line of open-ended play toys for parents just like … …..
Growing up, my mom loved Halloween. We went all out with house decorations, costumes, pumpkin carving, and everything spooky. I had some of the most amazing costumes as a child, and most of them were DIY by my mom and grandma (Grandma had some AMAZING sewing skills!). With 4 kids, we’ve carried on the DIY costume tradition for a few reasons. My favorite reason is that with a little planning, most DIY costumes can be really cute and unique. Also important, though, is that DIY costumes tend to be way cheaper when you have a large family. This year the … …..
Since our sweet 4-month-old boy is our last baby, we’re trying to soak in and savor every new milestone, skill, and smile he throws our way. I think I could never tire of watching him learn his current skill of grabbing items of interest and inspecting them. I love seeing his chubby little fingers grasping new objects and turning them over and around, with smiles and looks of awe. Throughout this stage of discovery, toys that pique his interest and encourage exploration are important to keep around. The Manhattan Toy Company is one company that I know I can rely … …..
